Diamond and Sapphire Engagement Rings

In recent years, more and more people are deciding that traditional engagement rings just aren’t what they’re looking for. As a result, there has been a surge in designer rings, custom bands and even a mixing of colors to allow for a more attractive ring. However, most of the custom bands and custom color combinations have a tendency to be much more expensive than their more traditional counterparts and are often out of reach for the vast majority of people.

Thankfully, there is a way to incorporate some beautiful colors in with the engagement ring without breaking the bank. A trend that is gaining in popularity is to use colored stones in the ring that aren’t diamonds. This allows for more vibrant colors and a more customized look without the worry of what you’ll have to pay for the same quality of diamond. The best stone, in many opinions, is the sapphire.

Sapphire and diamond engagement rings are great because the sapphire can come in a variety of colors from pale pinks to vibrant blues and everything in between. It also has the advantage of being worked with more than other stones which creates more products and styles to choose from. The best places to start looking for a sapphire and diamond engagement ring are at local jewelry stores. Here they will be able to help you find the style and color combination that you want. From there it would be a good idea to check out online dealers like Blue Nile to see what the price range on your ring will be.

Pink Sapphire Engagement Rings

If you’re going to make the most important jewelry buying decision in your life (engagement and wedding sets), it’s important that you get something that your future fiancé is going to cherish forever. Many people love the simplistic beauty of a standard diamond ring with white or yellow gold as a background. However, in recent years, more and more people have been opting for something that is more stylish and sets them apart from the crowd.

Because of the growing of numbers who are looking for that special design, there are more rings that are flooding the market with green, yellow, blue and red stones. This makes it a bit more difficult to find a truly unique ring that nobody else will have and everyone will wish they’d gotten to first. Pink sapphires are the ideal stone for this job.

Pink sapphires are a naturally occurring color variant of the ever popular sapphire stone. In many cases these stones are used in pendants and bracelets, but they still aren’t extremely common in rings. Because of this, the demand for them, by people who are looking for that special something, aren’t generally aware that they are even made. In turn, this drives the cost of these rings down and makes them affordable for anyone who wants to add a tasteful color to their engagement ring.

Shopping around for the right ring is, as with everything, one of the most important aspects of ensuring you get what you want. By comparing designs online and in several stores you will be able to know for sure what you’re going to like best and what will work best with any plans for a wedding set. Generally, you can expect to pay between $400 and $9000 for a quality pink sapphire engagement ring.

White Sapphire Engagement Rings

One of the amazing options for engagement rings is white sapphires. White sapphires make a perfect diamond substitute and are generally accepted as a perfect choice. These can have fewer imperfections than diamonds and could have a slight tint of blue which is very beautiful. Many women cannot tell the difference and enjoy the ring even though they know it is not a diamond. One reason for this is simply because the man did not settle for a created stone as a diamond simulation. Real stones are always more impacting than fake ones even if they are simply something that looks like a similar option such as diamonds.

Sapphires usually do not occur clear in nature and can be altered to become clear. The usual treatment is to heat the sapphire until the remnants of color are no longer noticeable. Clear sapphires are a better alternative to diamonds because they are not under the influence of conflict or the “blood” diamond trade. Sapphires used are much less expensive than diamonds while preventing the support of warring African nations over diamonds to help fuel the wars themselves. The use of white sapphires is really more acceptable than using lower quality diamond simulation stones.

Synthetic white sapphires are also possible by lab creation which can produce perfect stones without imperfections. Whatever the case, white sapphires make a great impression, especially when grouped with white gold or platinum. White sapphires make the perfect low cost engagement ring for any budget that needs a high quality stone but at a lower price range. These white sapphire options are easy to acquire and this makes the diamond trade nervous as more people learn about the perfect white sapphire options. The larger carat sizes of white sapphires should be avoided because they may contain imperfections.

Choosing Your Sapphire Engagement Ring

Unlike traditional diamond engagement rings, there is a need to match the color of the metal band to the color of the sapphire you choose. As with the stone itself there are many hues and slight variations in the color of all precious metals. To make things more difficult, you have to decide on which color of sapphire you want, as well as whether you want it to be natural or synthetic.

Metal choice is generally easy with a platinum group metal (platinum, palladium, rhodium, etc) being used and just having to match the hues, if any are discernable. White gold is also used fairly regularly, but the composition of the gold alloy must be carefully chosen when used with colored stones as a red hue will stand out, in the extreme, against a blue sapphire.

Choosing your stone can be as difficult or a easy as you choose to make it. By knowing what colors you enjoy before you walk into a jewelry store or request the assistance of a jeweler, your selection process can be cut down to a manageable group of about five to ten stones at each store. Next you need to figure out which cut you like. Unfortunately, it often takes seeing what works with your hand structure to really know which cut you would prefer to have on your ring.

Finally, you need to decide on a natural sapphire or a synthetic (lab created) stone. The main differences here are hues being less brilliant in nature and the lack of inclusions (flaws) in lab created stones. Because they are identical in their makeup it is really a matter of personal preference which you choose.

Why More Men Should Buy Non-Traditional Engagement Rings

Filed under: Sapphire Engagement Rings - 29 Jan 2010  | Spread the word !

I don’t know how long it has been that diamonds have been the standard for engagement rings, but I do know that diamonds aren’t for everyone. There are many other gemstones that are just as beautiful, and sometimes more so, than your every day white diamonds. One of those gorgeous stones is the sapphire. Whether your fiancée to be was born in September, likes to stand out in a crowd, or simply adores the color blue, you should consider a sapphire engagement ring.

Sapphires come in many shades of blue, and many colors for that matter. And they can make almost any piece of jewelry look a little better with the splash of color they add. However, while these options don’t make your ring buying any easier, they do make it a little more interesting. Matching the perfect sapphire or sapphires to a ring can be challenging and can take a lot of time and effort, but the end result and the knowledge that your fiancée won’t have the same ring as everyone else makes the headache worth it in the end.

When you finally match your band, sapphires and diamonds you’ll be able to see why more people are choosing “non-traditional” engagement rings. Their splash of color, grandeur and overall beauty show the world what you have in your relationship. They also show that you are willing to go that extra mile and don’t mind having to run through the mud sometimes to make your fiancée feel that much more special

Choosing A Sapphire Engagement Ring

Sapphires are beautiful natural gemstones containing the mineral corundum. Contrary to popular belief sapphires come in a whole range of colors including yellow, blue, pink, purple, orange and green – so there is something to suit everyone.

Sapphires are traditionally mined in Myanmar, Thailand, Sri Lanka and India – but you don’t have to travel that far to own one. Nowadays this gemstone is exported, cut and polished into numerous stone settings of all sizes.

Choosing the right sapphire for your partner can be a daunting task. However it can be made easier if you discuss her likes and dislikes. If she wants a particular style of ring and stone shape then you can get it tailor made personally. Any good jewelery store will be able to create the ring base and an empty setting up to your size specifications. Then you simply pick the sapphire of your choice and the jeweler will professionally fit it for you.

As for picking the right colour, pale yellow sapphires are a popular choice as they glisten in the light and look really beautiful on an engagement ring. Or how about your partners favourite colour, or even pick a stone to match her eye color? If you are unsure you could ask friends of family for advice and a second opinion. Good luck in finding that perfect sapphire!

Having a Fiancee is Great

Filed under: Sapphire Engagement Rings - 27 Apr 2009  | Spread the word !

[Facebook] [Twitter]

Exactly thirty-two days ago, I got down on one knee, put an engagement ring on my girlfriend’s finger and asked her if she would marry me. Because I had been in a relationship with my girlfriend for the last two years, I was confident that we could successfully take our relationship to the next level of commitment. As soon as I decided I was going to propose, my level of nervousness shot up a considerable amount (even though I knew this was the right decision). However, I couldn’t just get down on one knee and ask her to marry me; I had to start by getting an engagement ring.

In spite of the fact that I had shopped for jewelry before, those previous experiences didn’t really prepare me for this big one. After lots of searching and thinking about the best ring, I selected an amazing sapphire engagement ring. Once I had secured the sapphire engagement ring that I was going to give my special lady, I setup the plans for my proposal to her.

Even though it is true that shopping for a ring and planning the engagement wasn’t easy, but the night of my proposal is something I will remember forever. I feel so lucky because I not only get to have the memory of proposing to my fiancee in front of the patio fireplace at Fearing’s at the Ritz-Carlton, Dallas, but also get to spend the rest of my life with the woman I love more than anything. Even though we are still enjoying the simple fact of being engaged, we have started making plans for our wedding, and I think this is an event that is going to turn out incredibly well.
